The recipe for ART EXPERIMENT is: mix equal parts play, fresh air, natural and found ingredients, plus fun = art experiment. Our projects: sculpture, drawing, sketch books, collage, nature/science/art experiments, and art happenings find inspiration in art traditions such as native american culture, outsider art, and use artists of today and from previous cultures as inspiration.
We make stuff together as a group and individually. Most of all we make art work to have fun making stuff and to be as creative as we can be. We use trees, branches, words, sticks, leaves, acorns, seeds, paint, string, fabric, thread, printmaking, clay, build imaginary cities, make volcanos and shadow drawings.Magdalen Pierrakos is an artist who studied at Parsons and the San Francisco Art Institute and loves art by kids and being a teacher. Magdalen is organizing a public exhibition of the amazing art work of the young artists in her P.S. 107 Afterschool classes. |
Students learn to create their own stories, animations, and games using Scratch. Scratch is a platform and online community developed by MIT that is designed to teach kids to write code. Using basic programming concepts like loops and conditionals, students bring their ideas to life and share them with each other. They work independently and with partners, and provide constructive feedback to their classmates. At the end of the course, students may share their projects with their parents and the online Scratch community. Zak Greene is an independent interaction designer and developer based in New York. He built his first website when we was 10 and has been programming ever since. He likes working with kids because he knows firsthand how learning these skills at an early age can help lead to a fulfilling career later, while still being a lot of fun.

An amazing theatrical, musical experience where kids design and create a personality for their very own puppets. Kids then bring puppets to life by recording their voices on songs while preparing for a one of a kind, end of program musical performance! It's like a real life Pinocchio story! Students are guided through the design of colorful sock puppets using high quality materials with a variety of body parts and decor. Students record sentences, thoughts, and songs and experiment with developing voices and character with their individual puppets. At the end of course performance includes skits that are woven in and out of group songs and musicals.
Mr. Marc, an experienced live performance instructor and audio engineer walks students through the process of designing their puppets. |
Brazil Soccer warmly welcomes all children into our program regardless of developmental progress or skill level. This program is fundamentally whole and outrageously fun for children and their families. Children have fun in a friendly manner, without competition or pressure to win.
The focus will be on individual training and drills, rather than scrimmages or games until the NYC DOE allows this type of activity due to covid restrictions. Children should bring their own ball to use during class. * Your child will go off site for this program and cannot be picked up early. For safety, all pickups must be done at PS107 and cannot be done form the park. |
Ballet From pliés to grande jetés, ballet basics will be taught in a fun and engaging environment. Children will learn proper technique and terminology, while expressing their creativity through story-telling and games. Ballet is the foundation for all other dance forms, and provides an excellent grounding for any other movement-based activities students may choose to explore. This class is taught by Miho Nozawa, who has spent years teaching children’s ballet in the park slope area.

Tanya has done Razzle Dazzle shows everywhere from living rooms to the PS 321 Carnival to the main stage at Webster Hall. She has also performed with the Bindlestiff Family Cirkus and Coney Island Sideshows by the Seashore, and she teaches circus arts to elementary age children in afterschool programs. |
A healthy, high energy, learn-through-dance, educational dance party!

Dance Advance students are fully engaged and guided through dance, music, games, and creative exercise while learning STEAM curriculum, French language, and positive socialization, all within a joyful, structured, music and dance environment. Dance Advance creates a safe, respectful space where children trust and positively connect with Mr. Marc’s unique MC approach to having fun while learning. The program ends with a special grand finale class performance and Family Dance Contest with prizes for all. Students also receive Dance Advance "Champion" certifications. Teacher: Marc Herstein aka Mr. Marc |

Gardening (For Grades 1-5) In this hands-in-the-dirt workshop, children learn about growing healthy plants, indoors and out. The seasons shape activities as fall brings cool-season crops and bulb planting; winter involves indoor growing; and spring, a celebration of germinating seeds, beautiful salad greens... and bugs! Participants will learn about an urban vegetable garden: how soil, water, light, temperature, plant and animal communities’ work and about creating a healthy environment for crops in the city. This workshop will include garden maintenance and planting in accordance with the seasons; and sustainable, organic gardening practices. Jonathan Blumberg is a former PS 107 parent and experienced gardener.

For children who are interested in reading and learning about age-appropriate graphic novels and manga. The purpose of this club is to foster increased literacy and reading for enjoyment and information regardless of current reading ability; to learn to discuss books critically and share opinions with a group; and to have fun with books. Please enroll your child only if you know they will be able to participate in the class as described. Books will be borrowed from the PSACC graphic novel library and lead by Kristin Earhart, a graphic novel enthusiast and former PS107 parent herself.

Magic with Liam Malanaphy emphasizes cultivating a performance grounded in the wonder one feels when first seeing an amazing trick performed. The trick itself should eventually become a vehicle for sharing that feeling. In sharing magic performance with young people, one of the most fundamental things for them to understand is the enormous difference between knowing how a trick is done, and knowing how to do a trick. More than any specific tricks or talents, this class will seek to teach performance.
