The recipe for ART EXPERIMENT is: mix equal parts play, fresh air, natural and found ingredients, plus fun = art experiment. Our projects: sculpture, drawing, sketch books, collage, nature/science/art experiments, and art happenings find inspiration in art traditions such as native american culture, outsider art, and use artists of today and from previous cultures as inspiration.
We make stuff together as a group and individually. Most of all we make art work to have fun making stuff and to be as creative as we can be. We use trees, branches, words, sticks, leaves, acorns, seeds, paint, string, fabric, thread, printmaking, clay, build imaginary cities, make volcanos and shadow drawings.Magdalen Pierrakos is an artist who studied at Parsons and the San Francisco Art Institute and loves art by kids and being a teacher. Magdalen is organizing a public exhibition of the amazing art work of the young artists in her P.S. 107 Afterschool classes. |
Following the rhythms and cycles of nature, children use hands-on experiences, story, dramatic play, art, craft and song to observe and appreciate the natural world around them.
*The Thursday 3:05 pm class is taught by the beloved Ms. Tara and the 4:00 pm and 4:55 pm Thursday classes are taught by the amazing Ms. Sivan. |
An amazing theatrical, musical experience where kids design and create a personality for their very own puppets. Kids then bring puppets to life by recording their voices on songs while preparing for a one of a kind, end of program musical performance! It's like a real life Pinocchio story! Students are guided through the design of colorful sock puppets using high quality materials with a variety of body parts and decor. Students record sentences, thoughts, and songs and experiment with developing voices and character with their individual puppets. At the end of the session the performance includes skits that are woven in and out of group songs and musicals.
Mr. Marc, an experienced live performance instructor and audio engineer walks students through the process of designing their puppets. |
Brazilian Soccer warmly welcomes all children into our program regardless of developmental progress or skill level. This program is outrageously fun for children. This class is taught by Miho Nozawa, who has spent years teaching children’s ballet in the park slope area.

Do you have a passion for hair? Are you interested in expanding your knowledge of hair fashion?? Then Get styled would be great for you!!! Are you tired of your hair?? Don’t be!! Come get styled with me! This program will consist of a mini lesson tapping into the history of hair. Students will be able to gain hands on experience, techniques, and the key elements of styling hair. We will learn new hairstyles and how to express individuality in our projects. This program will culminate in a grand hair show at the end of the session. Come experiment and test your limits and creativity. Come style with me!!!
Get Styled was created by Malani Smith. Malani has been an employee at PS107 since 2018, and an employee of PSACC shortly after. “I’ve always enjoyed doing hair. I learned how to style and braid my little sisters’ hair when I was just 11 years old. I never had an older sister to help me with my hair, so I made sure I taught myself how to do hair so my sister’s hair would always be done. I worked in a hair salon for a couple of years where I was able to meet several clients and able to practice my talents. I realized I enjoyed working with children more. I’m going to mesh my two talents together in this fun class.” |
Students will learn to create and edit images using Adobe Photoshop. We’ll learn how colors, shapes, and type combine to make captivating designs that express ideas. We’ll share them with each other in print and on screen and talk about what makes them work. As a final project at the end of the year, each student will design and print their own unique t-shirt.
There is an additional $25 materials fee for the final project t-shirt. **Additional fee excluded for scholarship families |

In this program, children will explore various needle arts, including, but not
limited to, knitting crochet, loom knitting, finger knitting and weaving and needlepoint. Through exploration, we can determine the craft/crafts that are best suited for each child. Needle arts use both sides of the brain and help develop logic, creativity, fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and focus. Due to the repetitive motion of needle arts they are calming and meditative. Like any new repetitive motor skill (writing, playing the piano) mastery of the needle arts is achieved by practice. Daily practice of at least 20 minutes per day is ideal; however, mastery and other benefits can be achieved with as little as 20 minutes, three times per week. During the semester the children will work on individual projects and a least on group project. First Grade: First graders will learn finger knitting, arm knitting and finger crochet with each skill culminating in a finished project. The children will also complete seasonal projects for Christmas, Hanukkah and Valentine’s Day, etc. while learning weaving, needle point and basic embroidery. Second, Third, Fourth and Fifth Grades: Returning students and those with previous experience with needle arts will advance to more complex needle knitting, crochet and needlepoint projects. New students will start with finger knitting and arm knitting and progress to basic needle knitting. All students will complete individual projects and one group project. |
In the fun class children will learn Lacrosse basics, starting with skills in the first session and moving into playing full games by the Spring session.
Please note- when the weather gets cold, it is extremely difficult to hold the Lacrosse sticks and this class will work on other sport activities outside based on the overall desire of the class and Ms. Diane. Once the weather warms again, they will return to Lacrosse. |
Magic with Liam Malanaphy emphasizes cultivating a performance grounded in the wonder one feels when first seeing an amazing trick performed. The trick itself should eventually become a vehicle for sharing that feeling. In sharing magic performance with young people, one of the most fundamental things for them to understand is the enormous difference between knowing how a trick is done, and knowing how to do a trick. More than any specific tricks or talents, this class will seek to teach performance.
