Park Slope Afterschool Center Corp. (PSACC) is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization founded by PS 107 parents for the specific purpose of providing an affordable quality, out-of-school-time childcare program for PS 107 students. The program actively engages children, encouraging cognitive, social, emotional, artistic and physical development in a safe and collaborative environment.
We offer on-site continual care between the hours of 2:35 and 5:55 pm, with options for 1 set day, 2 set days, or 3-5 day memberships, as well as a drop-in option for emergency childcare. Included in membership is a healthy snack, homework hall (providing time to complete assignments under the care of supportive staff), free play with peers, and a specialty class (placement by lottery) for any set days you registered for.
As a not-for-profit, each year, PSACC offers financial assistance to attend the Afterschool Program in the form of partial or full scholarships. For additional information visit our Financial Aid + Scholarships page.
FAQ's: How does my child get to Afterschool? Your child will be transitioned by their PS107 day teacher directly to their Afterschool classroom where they begin their afternoon with their Afterschool friends. Once your child's afterschool schedule is confirmed, you will need to let your teacher know which days to dismiss your child to afterschool. If you have a change in your after school plans on any given day you must communicate the dismissal change to your child's teacher or the main office.
How does my child get assigned a specialty class? All children grades K-5th who are registered for 1 Day, 2 Day or 3-5 Day membership types can enter the lottery for a specialty class on each afternoon they are registered for. We provide a wide variety of specialty classes in arts, wellness, sports, languages and STEM, which are assigned by lottery to ensure the fairest placement possible. During our specialty class lottery period (August 14th-17th), families will choose 1st and 2nd choices for specialty classes they would like for each afternoon. After the open lottery period the requests are sorted and families are notified which classes they received before selecting and committing to a membership type. Pre-K students do not need to sign up for specialty programs due to the grades all-inclusive format.
Does my child have to take a specialty program, or can they play in the yard with their friends? The choice to take a specialty class is totally up to the family and should be based on the temperament and energy level of your child. Some children thrive in a very structured setting and having a class following the school day works well, while others have had enough structured learning for the day and will prefer supervised free play with friends. We have found that many children enjoy at least one afternoon in afterschool without a structured class. This is a decision you should choose together as a family, understanding that you can always drop a class that is not a hit and add a class with available seats at a later time.
Is Homework Hall like tutoring? Homework Hall for grades 1st-5th is not tutoring or one-on-one support. In Homework Hall your child will have time to complete homework assignments with their grade peers under the supervision of a supportive staff. Afterschool staff are there to provide support and encouragement, but do not tutor students or check homework for accuracy. Although we do our best to ensure homework is all completed during Afterschool, students work at their own pace and some may not fully finish while with us. We ask that all parents look over your child's homework each night. Afterschool follows the homework policy and timelines set by PS 107.
Does my child have to complete their homework during Afterschool? We understand some families prefer for their children to complete homework assignments at home. If this is your preference, please send a written note or email [email protected] to inform us. If your child will not be doing homework with us, we ask that you please send books or small toys/games your child can quietly utilize during Homework Hall time in case all of their friends are still doing homework.
Does Afterschool provide snack? Afterschool provides one single serve snack per day (some examples: bars, goldfish cracks) and one piece of fresh fruit (bananas, apples, oranges). We ask all families to please send your child with multiple snacks each afternoon however, because sometimes children do not like our snacks or one snack is not enough. We are a NUT FREE organization. Please do not send your child to Afterschool with snacks that have any nuts.
Can my child leave school and then return to Afterschool? Due to our permitting through the New York City Department of Education and being considered an "extension of the school day," students must be in attendance for the school day, meaning they need to arrive at school prior to 12:00 noon. If a child comes to school in the morning and leaves for an outside doctor/dentist appointment they would need to return by 2:20 pm in order to transition to afterschool from their classroom.
Students who are absent from school cannot go to Afterschool. Students who arrive past 12:00 noon are welcome at school, but are marked absent for the day, and therefore cannot attend Afterschool and must be picked up by 2:35 pm.
Can my child stay later than 6 pm? No. All pickups must be done by the close of Afterschool at 5:55 pm. Any family arriving one minute past 6:00 pm will pay a $10.00 late fee in cash, Venmo, PayPal or Zelle at the time of pickup.
I am running late or need to have someone else pick up my child from Afterschool. What do I do? Please text or call (347) 994-9555 to notify us of any last minute pickup changes. You can also add family, neighbors and friends to your PICKUP CONTACTS list in 6crickets. Anyone on your list will be allowed to pick up your child including older siblings in 6th grade and older.
5th Grade Self-Dismissals & Escorting Younger Siblings Home Beginning September 20, 2024, 5th grade students with a signed self-dismissal permission form will be allowed to sign themselves out after their program has finished and walk home. After Spring Break in 2025, we allow 5th grade students, with a signed self-dismissal Sibling Form, to sign out and escort home younger siblings in 2nd grade and up. Older students in middle and high school can pick up their younger siblings from afterschool as long as they are listed as a Pickup Contact in your 6crickets account.
Is Afterschool open when school is closed for half-days or vacation breaks? There is no afterschool on half days or when school is closed. We do not offer mini camps during school breaks.
Why doesn't my child's Blue Card at school work for Afterschool? We are a separate not for profit and our school records and the schools are different and we do not have access to any school records or software. We are unable to see any blue cards and therefor families must input your emergency contacts and approved pickups in your 6crickets account.
Will I be notified if my child’s class is cancelled? If we receive enough notice from an instructor, we will be able to notify parents via 6crickets email messaging, but unfortunately that’s not always the case, so you may receive an email after the start time of the program. All outdoor classes are subject to weather conditions. No refunds are given for cancelled classes. We are unable to offer make-up classes.
Can my child bring a cell phone to Afterschool? Consistent with school rules, children are not allowed to use cell phones, phone watches or tablets during Afterschool. Electronic devices must be turned off and put away in addition to phones this also includes headphones and earbuds. For children who require a cell phone to communicate departure plans during Afterschool, they must come to the main office to use their phone under the supervision of staff. Parents should not text their children during afterschool. We ask that parents wanting to message their children during afterschool send a text to (347) 994-9555 and we will pass along the message.
Are Pokemon Cards allowed? Students are allowed to play with card games and trading cards in afterschool. However, we feel strongly that cards of any value, real or sentimental, do not belong in afterschool because the children get extremely upset when they lose them while playing or trading cards. If you allow your child to come to afterschool with Pokemon cards please make sure no one will be upset if they get lost and that anything lost can be easily replaced.
What about Special Objects of Value? Anything of special value should not come to afterschool as we cannot guarantee they will not get lost or broken/ruined.
How does billing work? The afterschool registration and billing system is via 6crickets. Before attending Afterschool, all families must pay a non-refundable annual registration fee and sign up for a membership (1 Day, 2 Days or 3-5 Days). Monthly payments are automatically drawn on the 15th of the month via your credit card that is saved in 6crickets. Your 6crickets Afterschool account gives you the ability to remove and replace credit cards anytime. The system accepts credit cards and debit cards only. We do not accept cash or checks.
Is there a sibling discount for Afterschool? Yes! There is a 10% sibling discount off the membership type for the 2nd, 3rd or 4th child of equal or lesser enrollment. There is no discount for the one-time annual registration fee of $125 per child.
Can I cancel or change my membership type or specialty classes? Yes! To change a specialty class or a membership type email [email protected] with your request by the 1st of any month. We require all change requests in writing not via text, phone call or conversation during pickup. Families can change their membership type once per season (Fall/Spring). Due to high demand, we are unable to hold specialty programs for families that do not have current memberships.
I am confused and have additional questions, who do I contact? You can outreach to the Executive Director, Pamela Rosenberg via email at [email protected] or by phone at 347-994-9555. We are always happy to answer questions.
